Wouldn\u2019t You?<\/a><\/h1>\n<p>The magazine\u00a0<em>Consumer Reports<\/em>\u00a0is publishing a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/notinmyfood.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/CR_Meat_On_Drugs_Report_06-12.pdf\">report and poll\u00a0<\/a>on US consumers\u2019 attitudes toward the overuse of antibiotics in agriculture. From everyone\u2019s reactions when I write about this, I thought people cared about this issue, but the numbers are a little surprising even to me:\u00a0<em>86 percent<\/em>\u00a0of shoppers in a nationally representative sample of 1,000 adults said they wanted meat raised without antibiotics to be available in their local supermarkets.\u00a0Some other key numbers:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>72 percent of shoppers were concerned about overuse of agricultural antibiotics creating superbugs<\/li>\n<li>67 percent worried about routine antibiotic dosing in livestock feed<\/li>\n<li>65 percent thought there might be antibiotic residues in meat they consume<\/li>\n<li>61 percent worried about antibiotics entering the environment from mega-farm runoff<\/li>\n<li>61 percent were willing to spend at least 5 cents more per pound in order to buy meat raised without antibiotics<\/li>\n<li>37 percent were willing to spend an additional dollar per pound. \u00a0 <em>(Tevya&#8217;s doesn&#8217;t require you to spend an extra dollar, to the contrary!)<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Via weird.com People Want to Eat Meat Raised Without Excessive Antibiotics.
